“Ultimate Body Cure” aka “Died and Gone to Heaven!”

Posted on 23. Sep, 2009 by jodi in Blog

“Oooooooh my!”, “You’ve got to be kiddin’ me!”,  Somewhere, sometime, I must have done something right!”, “I think I’ll take up permanent residence here!”,  “Pina Colada please”, “Holy cucumber!”,Ahh…ahhhhh….ahhhhhhhh!”, “Pinch me, I think I’ve just died and gone to heaven!”, Whoever came up with this deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for restoring peace to my soul!”, “Zzz…zzzzz…zzzzzz”.

These were just a few of the thoughts floating around in my head while I was receiving my Ultimate Body Cure at the Layton Sego Lily Spa. I originally thought the name of the treatment was Ultimate Body Care – not Cure. But that last word is of utmost importance because it really defines what happens!  So far, this has been my favorite treatment I’ve had at Sego Lily to date….well okay, with the exception of when I was crowned as the winner!  NOTHING can really top that because it meant I would get to experience this and more!

I was really looking forward to this treatment even though I wasn’t sure what to expect when I entered the spa that morning.  I knew this one was going to rank right up there at the top however, because every therapist and aesthician I ‘ve had so far asked me if I’ve had the vichy shower/massage yet.  When I reply no, they all told me I was going to love it.  Now I know why!

Every single part of the experience was incredible.  Starting with my therapist Amanda.  She was so darling and sweet.  She made it all very relaxing, yet fun.  She’s the kind of person that even though you just met them, you feel like you have been friends for years.

Vichy shower

Amanda walked me to the room and as we entered we were enveloped by a warm and misty vapor of steam.  I was already enjoying this!  She explained the treatment procedure and asked if I had any questions.  After she stepped out of the room I laid face down on the incredibly comfortable AND heated table! Wow, I really love these heated tables!  I placed the  huge towel over me and when Amanda came back in she was wearing a large water proof apron.  She informed me we were both going to be drowned rats by the end.  Bring on the drowning!  By this time I was so excited I could hardly wait for the cure!

Once I got comfortable on my stomach, Amanda had me approve of the water temperature and then cranked on the vichy shower heads.  Yes, that was heads, not head.  Seven to be exact! Seven different sized and shaped shower heads shooting out very hot and healing water at different pressure levels while moving very slowly back and forth across my entire towel covered body – with the exception of my head (or I really would have been a drowned rat, not that I would have minded at that point however!)  Oh my!  Now, there is bliss and then there is heavenly bliss.  I don’t even have to tell you which this was.  I felt like I had escaped to a far away paradisaical island where I was lying on a sandy beach, completely relaxed during a downpour of very warm rain! I would have been absolutely content if this part lasted the entire 90 minutes!   But there was much more pampering in store!

vichy

Amanda with her Cuke Soup

The first part of the cure was to exfoliate. As we all know, the cure for many ailments requires some kind of healing soup.   No exception here.  The exfoliation remedy consisted of a big bowl of cucumber soup.  Besides cukes, it was also comprised of honey, milk, and oil.  It smelled good enough to eat!  Good thing I had my Wheaties that morning.  Amanda used a loofah with the cuke soup to scrub my dry skin cells away.  It felt invigorating!  Then once again the shower heads slowly streamed back and forth across my body pulsating down their very hot and soothing water while rinsing away the cuke soup and warming me outside and in!  I felt like a car in a car wash being rinsed as the jet spray circles around and around.

The second part of the cure was to cleanse.  This was done with a fabulous sweet grass scented soap.  It was the most wonderful feeling as she held the smooth and slippery soap in her hand as she massaged it into me.   And then once again it was shower time!  Oh, how I loved that part!  There is something very tranquilizing about the sound of water.  It was unbelievably relaxing.  Showers are relaxing anyway, but having one while laying down on a heated table with your eyes closed while being massaged is something you have to experience to appreciate!   I was already feeling cured of most of my stress.

The next step of the cure was the massage. Amanda used a creamy apple pear souffle for this part.  Yum!  A word of advice:  Be sure to come with a full stomach or it will be growling from all these delicious aromas!  Now, we all know that massages are great, but when coupled with hot steamy water from a vichy shower, it’s really impossible to out do that!  Talk about total relaxation. In the future when someone tells me to go to my happy place…this will be it!

vichy

Next in line was my face. I turned over onto my back and then Amanda cleansed my face and neck with a very aromatic lemon cleanser.  Another wonderful scent! After that she applied cucumbers on my face and let them do their thing while she gave me another amazing massage on that side of my body.  I couldn’t quit thinking (and saying aloud a few times) that I had seriously died and gone to heaven.  It really just doesn’t get any better than this.  Amanda then placed then cucumbers on my hands.  I was so relaxed at this point that I don’t think they stayed on too well!

The last part of the cure was the hair and scalp treatment.  My hair was washed with a lemon verbena shampoo and my scalp was very happy when it got it’s own private massage.  What a great feeling to have someone wash your hair for you and then help release all your stored up tension through a scalp massage.  Ooooooh…  But sadly, it was then time for my final rinse.  I was not ready for it to end.  However, I was now feeling totally and completely cured, not only in body, but in mind and spirit as well.  It’s amazing what a little soup and a hot shower massage can do!

I’m no doctor, but I do have the prescription for healing your mind, body, and soul.   Sego Lily’s Ultimate Body Cure. Take two asprins and call them in the morning!

Microdermabrasion ~ the Good News!

Posted on 15. Sep, 2009 by jodi in Blog

I have bad news and good news.   To begin with, it is important to state that no treatment can halt the aging process.  =(   That would be the bad news… (lets hope you figured that part out on your own!)  I, myself,  have been experiencing a drought at the fountain of youth for quite some time now.  Time waits for no man, woman or wrinkle. Wrinkles are like bad pennies and old movie stars: always making a comeback.  But, even though those sentiments are the depressing facts, there are ways to slow down the process.  Enter Microdermabrasion.  Yes, that would be the GOOD news!

Kirsten, one of Sego Lily’s top aestheticians, is my new best friend!  Yes, I love her!  I mainly love what she did for my face.  I have to admit, being the spa rookie that I am, I was a little apprehensive (not to mention considerably nervous) about having my first treatment of microdermabrasion.  I had heard before that it can be painful and expect to not be seen in public for several days after due to a red and peeling face.  Well, I was wrong!   It wasn’t painful, though it wasn’t exactly pleasant either.  Not exactly one of those ”spa”  treatments where you are as relaxed as a wet noodle and transported to another planet.  No…but, the after effects make it all worth it!

Kirsten was very informative and explained every little detail of the treatment before she proceeded.  I learned that microdermabrasion rejuvenates and revitalizes the skin. Who wouldn’t want a little rejuvenating of anything? It is a highly effective treatment for fine lines, acne, scarring, hyper-pigmentation, stretch marks, sun damage and more.  Wow!  Why didn’t I discover this sooner?!  Maybe there’s hope for that drought to become a fountain again!  It’s main purpose is to clean pores, stimulate collagen to improve skin texture (trust me, at my age my collagen needs all the stimulation it can get!),  promote the production of new cells in the deepest layer of the dermis (that would be your skin - the body’s largest organ that really likes to wrinkle us up for some unknown reason…grrrr!)  Why can’t there be a wrinkle drought instead?

microderma

Kirsten performing her miracles on me.

The procedure is relatively quick and simple. It is basically done with a tool that  moves across your face and neck shooting out a fine jet of crystals to gently and painlessly exfoliate your skin while a vacuum suction removes the crystals along with the dead and damaged skin cells in order to bring the healthy and vibrant ones to the surface, leaving you with new, softer skin and even skin texture.  The best way to describe the sensation is to compare it to a cat’s rough tongue licking your face.  If you’ve ever experienced that, then you know what it feels like.  If not, go find a cat and rub some tuna water on your face and then you will get a little preview of what to expect!

After Kirsten finished the procedure, my face felt like it had a slight wind or sunburn.  But not for long!  Enter the O2.  Yes, oxygen!  She used an oxygen machine with another little tool that released an extremely cool (actually very cold!) oxygen serum mist enriched with anti-aging vitamins that felt so relieving.  The temperature was a bit shocking to my skin at first, but as she proceeded, that cool mist felt oh so soothing and healing.  Besides the cooling factor, the O2 also helps protect the new, vibrant layer of skin just uncovered by the microdermabrasion treatment, as well as eliminating most of the redness and irritation.  After the oxygen procedure, Kirsten then applied some heavy duty Rhonda Allison (my favorite!) moisturizers, sunscreen, and other products that felt (and smelled!) so wonderful!

microderma

Though my eyes were covered and closed at this point, the ceiling in the room was incredible! I meant to take a photo of it so you could see what I was looking at while on my back but I was a little too preoccupied. Now I guess you will just have to go and see it for yourself!

One of the greatest advantages to microdermabrasion is the fact that it requires no down time, no real discomfort, no side effects and no recovery time. My skin felt vibrant and healthy and I noticed an immediate difference in my much softer and much smoother skin. I was still not sold however until she handed me a mirror and I saw the results for myself.

I was freaking glowing!!!

Avoiding direct sun exposure and using sun screen is highly recommended after the treatment.  Of course as luck would have it, I had a full day ahead which required sitting in the sun at my son’s football game (thank heavens for good sunscreen, hats, and umbrellas.)  Also applying full make-up, like foundation, isn’t recommended for about 24 hours after the treatment. But eye make-up and lipstick may be applied immediately after.  Thankfully Kirsten applied a special foundation so I could be presentable in public and then applied a bronzer that was seriously incredible!  She did inform me that I would still feel some of the crystals on my face for a while, which I did, because the suction isn’t able to get every one of them and some redness is expected after the treatment, however, this is not likely to persist for more than a few hours. My face was very dry and did peel quite a bit in certain spots for about three days.  But nothing that couldn’t be hid with make-up.

My new BFF!

We might not be able to halt those nasty wrinkles, but at least we can go to war against them with those powerful crystal blasters and slow them down some.  Yea for microdermabrasion!  If you have even been thinking about doing it, I would highly recommend you go for it!  Gosh, why do all these spa treatments have to have such amazing results that they become so addicting?!!  Thanks Kirsten for revitalizing not only my skin, but me too!!!

Another SPA-cial Delivery!

Posted on 01. Sep, 2009 by jodi in Blog

I could not have been more excited to receive my very first professional facial!  It was with great anticipation that I left my house to head to the Midvale Sego Lily Day Spa.  I had never been to the Midvale location, but had heard many great things about it.  Even though it was a much longer drive for me, I was okay with it because I knew it would be every bit as luxurious as the Layton spa.

img_5396
I’m just a wee bit excited for my very first facial!
img_5409

Waterfall wall in Midvale Spa entry way

My expectations were not only met, but surpassed.   Once I saw the waterfall wall upon my entrance, I was hooked!  There is something about the sound and sight of water trickling down in a beautiful setting that is just so relaxing and comforting.  I would have been rejuvenated just by soaking that in all by itself.  But who wants to do THAT?  After all, I had a facial on the menu today!

img_5404

Meditation room in Midvale Spa

This place was absolutely gorgeous and so beautifully decorated specifically to make you feel completely at home.  And as we all know, being at home is where we relax the best!  There were so many big comfy chairs and pillows and couches and places to sit, that there was no excuse to not find the spot that felt “just right”…ahh.  I tried out several different seats and my only regret is that I didn’t have more time to just sit and let the thoughts seep out as I lounged and meditated.  And to top it all off there was another wall of water!  Loved that!  The peaceful sounds of that wall took me away into a wonderful place with a tropical stream or a creek flowing peacefully down the mountain.  Serenity at it’s best!

img_5401

Waterfall wall in meditation room and PURPLE robe!

Now I know I am being a little prejudiced here, but I have to say the very best part of the Midvale location is the fact that they have PURPLE ROBES!!! Yes, purple!  Once I put that regal color on, I truly felt like royalty…like the pampered princess I was so hoping to be when I first entered this contest. That purple robe totally sealed the deal for me!  img_5400

I was liking this!

But wait! It gets even better! Inside the waiting/meditation room there was a table spread with a lot of very tempting (and healthy) treats! Fresh fruit, dried fruit mix, and even brownie bites!!! I am all for escaping reality, but I am sure glad there was chocolate in this dream! It wouldn’t really be an escape without chocolate.  And YES my friends…chocolate IS healthy. Did you know that dark chocolate has now been proven to erase fine lines and wrinkles?!  True story! And those scientists are not talking about rubbing it on the outside of your face like some cocoa scrub. Oh no, they are talking about ingesting it internally! What could be better?  Not only do you get the benefits of reducing wrinkles, but you also get to enjoy the taste while doing it!  Okay my spa peeps, there will no longer be any guilt allowed when indulging in nature’s most perfect food! Unless, of course you like wrinkles because it’s also been scientifically proven that guilt causes them!

img_5403

Indulging in healthy chocolate (calorie free!) flavored syrup for my water!

I also found this great little station that has a selection of healthy syrup to flavor your water. And guess what one of the flavors was? I’ll give you a hint. It’s healthy and has been proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.  Yep!  Chocolate again! Can you feel that guilt just evaporating away?!

img_5399

Really, what more do I need?

Wow, could there be anything wrong with this picture?  Well, I’ll let you do the math.  Let’s see.  Waterfall walls, luxurious chairs, two huge fireplaces, soothing background music, healthy snacks (including chocolate brownie bites), chocolate flavored water, AND purple robes!!!  I was enjoying it all so much, I almost forgot I actually came to get a facial!

The facial I was to receive was called the Signature Facial.  Ashley, my aesthetician, came and got me from the waiting area and took me in to a room with dimmed lighting that smelled so glorious and had the most calming music playing softly in the background.  I immediately felt like I was on a vacation at some luxurious tropical resort. Before we even got started Ashley explained to me exactly what she would be doing and asked if I had any questions or concerns.  I did not and was good to go!

When I think of getting a facial, I think of only my face getting spoiled.  Not at Sego Lily.  My face wasn’t the only thing getting pampered.  My hands, feet, legs, neck, arms, and back got the royal treatment as well.   I have to say the hand massage is now on the top of my list for one of my new favorite things.  Ashley had the perfect touch as she rubbed some wonderful scented lotions on me and then massaged them deep into the pores of my hands.  I was astonished how wonderful a little hand massage can be.   The rest was just as fabulous but I left wanting even more of the hand massage.  I’ve tried doing it to myself at home since,  but it just isn’t the same as having a professional do it that knows exactly what pressure points to touch and how to knead the tension out.

The facial was beyond marvelous.  This was my first ever professional facial and I can tell you right now, it will NOT be my last.  Can we say addicted?  It was pampering at it’s finest.  Ashley used products on me that contained vitamins, anti-oxidants, plant driven proteins, and firming botanicals.  The smells were absolutely euphoric.  She gave me a play by play as she went along and made sure I understood each step along  the way.  My face was thoroughly cleaned then exfoliated.  She used a machine that produced hot steam to open my pores and release harmful chemicals in my skin.  The hot steam was actually very enjoyable.  I also loved the hot washcloths being placed on my face at various times that penetrated the heat into my pores.  But nothing compared to having the pressure points rubbed and kneaded on my face, neck, and shoulders with the spa’s scrumptiously scented lotions.  Ahh… complete bliss.  We took some photos of the treatment along the way, but they didn’t turn out unfortunately.  Ashley said my face looked really good and I didn’t need any extractions done.  Whew…  Or maybe that’s not good because now I’ll really be eating all that chocolate without guilt!

Once the facial was over I was feeling completely and totally relaxed.  My face felt absolutely amazing and softer than a baby’s tush!  The lotions hadn’t completely absorbed all the way and when Ashley handed me the mirror I could see a glow that would have lit up the midnight sky! As I lay on the table, I was soaking in the peaceful environment while letting my mind drift.  I knew the real world would be knocking on my door soon enough and so I was enjoying the tranquility while I could.

As I walked in the dressing room I took a look at the incredible Sauna and Steam room they offer at the Midvale Spa.  I was disappointed that I was pressed for time and so I was unable to enjoy either luxury!  Next time I will be sure and allow for plenty of time to try out both!  In the dressing room they also provide curling irons, flat irons, blow dryers, combs, brushes, make-up remover, hair spray, deodorant….pretty much anything you might need to look presentable once again.  As I got dressed and re-applied my make-up, I was still reeling in the aftermath of the whole experience.  So much so that I grabbed what I thought was hair spray and sprayed it throughout my hair.  It wasn’t until I noticed that it didn’t seem to be holding my hair in place, that I realized I had sprayed aerosol deodorant all over my hair!!!  Baby powder scent no less.  At least it went well with my baby soft skin!  I’m just glad I didn’t use the hair spray as deodorant!

Sego Lily has everything you will need to re-groom yourself. Just be sure and use the right product for the right need!

img_5405

DUMMIES NOTE: Read the labels of the products BEFORE you use them!

img_5413

I was feeling like one pampered princess!  What a great way to start the day, week, MONTH!  Ashley talked to me about the products she used on me during the treatment.  I fell in love with many of them.  Thankfully they sell them right there at Sego Lily. I was really sold on the Rhonda Allison line of anti-aging sunscreen and moisturizer.  The sunscreen has an SPF of 30 and the moisturizer also has sunscreen in it.  As one who spends a lot of time outdoors in the sun, I was excited to find a sunscreen that I can wear under my make-up without it feeling like it’s sweating off as soon as I put on my foundation.  I have been using it daily since the facial and I am very happy with both it and the moisturizer.

I was not thrilled however, with the idea that once I stepped out that door, reality would be waiting for me once again.  I know, I know…poor little pampered princess has to face the real world.  But, I was most grateful for the incredible temporary escape knowing that it would sustain my sanity for many days after!  Once again, Sego Lily saved the day, week, MONTH!  I realize now why they named it Sego Lily.  The Sego Lily roots kept the pioneers alive during a trying time.  And it’s keeping me alive (at least sane!) too with each and every treatment I receive!  I have no doubt it will do the same for you too!

Slow Down, You’re Going to Fast!

Posted on 13. Aug, 2009 by jodi in Blog

menu-body2I was so excited to have my first treatment as the Sego Lily Blogger that I fear I probably broke a few speeding laws to get there because I just couldn’t wait! I tried to envision myself getting pulled over for speeding and then asking the officer if he could please pose for a photo for my blog because it would add so much to the post. If that ever does happen, you can be rest assured that I will do that.

As I arrived (thankfully citation free), I rushed in the door at my usual rapid pace. But once inside the spa I felt like I had entered another realm and every part of me immediately soaked in the relaxing ambiance I was surrounded by. The peaceful atmosphere was like a magnet drawing all the hastening and hurrying out off my system. It was almost as if time stood still and I felt my mind and body slow down. I experienced an ahhh… moment. And that was even BEFORE the massage! Ahhhhhhhhh…

My body, mind, and soul were waiting with anticipation for some heavy duty pampering. On the menu for my first treatment was the Sego Lily Sampler 90 minute massage. It consists of a classic Swedish massage and my choice of reflexology, cranial sacral, or a rocky mountain stone massage. Now that sounded like a slice of heaven, or better yet, a slice of chocolate cake, (well… technically I guess that IS a slice of heaven, at least in my world). Surprisingly enough, I didn’t even think of chocolate once the whole time I was there. Now that is blog worthy… Who needs chocolate when you are getting something even better? Did I really say that?

Jeff was my massage therapist. I was told he has a reputation for getting many requests at the Layton spa where he works. I was ready to put him up to the test and see if he really deserved that reputation. I can honestly say, he more than passed the test. His experience and skill worked out so many kinks from my sore and knotimg_5324ted muscles (some I didn’t even know were muscles.) He searched and rescued them. No knot or kink escaped alive. He was so great to answer my questions and explain things to me. The massage was incredible! I was completely relaxed and not wanting it to ever end. The soothing and calming music in the background and the wonderful aromas of the lotions and oils took me away by themselves.

The description for this massage claims that long flowing strokes and kneading techniques will relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce stress. I would say this description is only fairly accurate. Only fairly because they left off the part that it will also make you completely oblivious to whiny children, spilled milk, piles of laundry, dirty dishes, and kid’s punching wars (at leasmassaget for several hours after), relieve your worry of what’s for dinner (that’s why they have carryout pizza), reduce your tendency to over react to the sound of firecrackers exploding in the backyard as you pull in the driveway, and improve your ability to tune out, “There’s nothing to eat around here”. After you just spent $200 at the grocery store. I think that would make it a bit more accurate.

After Jeff’s intensely wonderful massage, I was able to experience one of my new favorite luxuries. The Rocky Mountain Stone massage. Two words: It rocks! I have never felt anything so relaxing and so healing. I am a big fan of heat and the heat of those rocks penetrating deeply into my sore muscles was the most luxurious indescribable feeling. Oh wow! I wouldn’t have minded that part of the massage taking the full 90 minutes. It was the most comforting sensation….the silky smooth rocks, with the deep heat, all while working my tired muscles. Not a better combination to be found anywhere.

dscf6650

Next on the list was the Cranial Sacral. It sounds like something a witch doctor would prescribe, but do not be fooled.  It did have it’s own sense of magic however.  The tension and stress magically disappeared. Technically I was only supposed to get one of the three side choices, but Jeff wanted me to be able to experience a little taste of all three and so he shortened each one so I could. The cranial sacral was amazing! I had a headache as I arrived at the spa earlier, but after this awesome head and neck massage, it was no where to be found. I felt all the tension and stress just slowly slip away.

dscf6774

Last but not least, was the Reflexology massage. This is an Asian technique that applies pressure to the feet to stimulate reflex points that correspond to specific energy zones and organs of the body in order to restore balance and health. The feet! Oh yes! I am a huge fan of foot rubs. I will even pay my boys to give them to me because I love them so much (meaning the foot-rubs ~ I love my boys too, but they think I am torturing them when I ask for a foot rub!) They used to give them to me for free when they were younger and not as wise. Now, I have to take out a 2nd mortgage to get them to do it for me. Well, this one made up for it all. This was more than just a foot rub. It was more like a foot rub on steroids. I must have said, “Ahh…” more than 10 times during it. The wonderful aromas of the lotions once again made it all that much more enjoyable. I wanted it to last forever.

The entire experience was incredible.

There was one part of it that I was not particularly fond of however. That was when it was OVER and I had to return to REALITY. But even after that, I was welcome to stay and sit in the meditation room for as long as I wanted. Or take my time with a hot and steamy shower. Every single cell, nerve, and muscle in my body was in such slow motion by then, that if I had become any more relaxed, I’m afraid Sego Lily would’ve had to bury me.

I had finally slowed down.

My body, mind, and soul were thanking me for it and all three would be doing back handsprings if they weren’t so relaxed. Not even reality would be able to speed me back up to my normal pace. At least not immediately. I was so calm and serene, that there was no chance I was going to get pulled over for speeding on the way home. Possibly for going too slow… Okay, that’s never going to happen either. But, at least I was going the speed limit!

Thank you Sego Lily for slowing me down and pampering me up!

♥ Thank you! ♥

blog-winner-92-21

In a kingdom not too far away, there once was a girl…(okay a little older than a girl, but she was female!)

This girl had a blog.
Also in this kingdom there was a luxurious spa named Sego Lily Day Spa where the utmost in royal pampering treatments were given. A royal decree was heard throughout all the land that this spa was having a contest to select a royal blogger for their spa. The winner would become the most pampered princess in all of the kingdom!
The girl blogger was encouraged by her dear aunt to enter Sego Lily’s contest. The girl thought, “Why not? To be or not to be, that is the question.  And to be (the winner!)  is the answer!”
So the girl did enter the contest. The girl nearly tossed her royal cookies when the announcement came throughout the land that she was selected as one of the top five Sego Lily bloggers. This thrilled the girl! The girl worked wearily petitioning her fellow bloggers and friends to vote for her to become the new royal Sego Lily blogger. Her fellow bloggers and friends grew weary of the girl’s constant outcries begging for support. At times they wanted to toss her into the mote. But they never complained or let her down once. They supported her throughout the long and intense ordeal.
The girl knew the odds of her becoming the royal winner were slim because the other four damsels were some of the best bloggers in the land. But she still kept her hopes high. The girl was in constant wonderment about the big day when the royal winner would be announced.
Finally, one day the girl was asked to meet at the royal Sego Lily Day Spa for the much anticipated announcement of the lucky winner. She was told to brinblog-winner-63-17g her family and friends along as well. The girl was beyond excited to finally learn who would become the most pampered princess of all the kingdom. How she was hoping it would be her!
They all gathered at the royal Sego Lily palace with intense anticipation!

img_5033

The girl’s family and friends were all escorted into the back of the Sego Lily palace while she waited in the luxurious parlor to meet and talk with the fair damsel Jackie, who was to tell the girl which blogger was chosen as the winner. The girl was a bit surprised when no announcement was made and the beautiful damsel Jackie asked the girl to come hither to the back of the palace with her.
The girl curiously followed her to the back and as she opened a door to enter she was greeted very loudly with party horns, confetti flying, and excited screams of Congratulations!” by her royal family and frieimg_5038nds and the entire spa family!  A crown was placed upon her head and she was given the most beautiful bouquet of flowers she had ever seen! A scrumptious royal feast was also spread for all to enjoy.  There was much merriment in the palace.
She had won! She was to become the most pampered princess in all of the kingdom!
img_5043
The girl was in royal shock!
And continues to be to this day.  The only thing that will bring her out of it is a few massages and a lot of pampering.
Sego Lily to the rescue, once again, of a damsel in distress!
There you have it.  That’s the story…
Oh…and of course, she lived happily ever after!!!  Or at least happily for  ONE full year and 24 treatments after!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can someone pinch me! Or better yet, massage me! I still can’t believe this is happening! Is it really true???
What an honor! A true honor. I feel so humbled.  I must say each one of the other four finalists deserved this every bit as much as I did. If there was a way to share it, I gladly would! I am grateful we were able to do the TV segment in the beginning so I could meet them. Angie with her bright and warm smile. Amanda’s wit and clever poster. Heather who is just as sweet as she can be. Unfortunately Robin was unable to make it and so I didn’t get to meet her, but I love her blog. Each one is so gifted and talented, that I feel honored to just be in the top five with them. Thank you to each, for being so kind and gracious. You really are all amazing women.
Thank you to my incredible family and friends for your undying support!  I am so blessed to have such an amazing support system in my life!  I was blown away by how many of you went the extra mile to help me out.  You were there when I needed you most.  You were there when things were smooth sailing and more importantly when the seas got a little rough.  How can I ever re-pay you?  I know, I know, by taking you with me for each treatment!  Oh, how I wish I could!  Thank you all from the deepest part of my heart!  ♥
And a huge thank you to Sego Lily for your generosity and for how wonderful and memorable you made the celebration for me and my family and friends. Everything was done with such class and style, just like your spa. I was, and continue to be, overwhelmed by your generosity and support. I look forward to working with you and getting to know you all much better. I can’t thank you enough! But I will continue to try.
I hear the music playing… but one last THANK YOU TO ALL who helped me in any way!
Here are a few more photos from the INCREDIBLE DAY!
Burdens Banished by Butter!
It’s a tough job but somebody had to do it.img_44461
As a finalist in the Sego Lily Day Spa search for their blogger contest, I excitedly set up an appointment for my complimentary spa treatment that I would happily get to blog about as my final entry.
The very kind woman on the phone informed me my treatment was to be a Body Butter Drench that was 90 minutes in length! 90 minutes???  That’s an hour and a half!  That’s three episodes of Sponge Bob!  30 minutes short of two hours!  Now, I am not sure about you, but I wasn’t sure my body could handle being drenched in rich and luxurious butter for even a few minutes let alone 90! I had visions of my dry and cracking body going into shock from lack of exposure to this kind of luxury. Maybe I needed to start slow, with say… a Body Margarine Sprinkle first?
Don’t get me wrong, I am not a member of some anti-butter cult. No, no…not me. I frequently drench many things in butter (i.e….fresh popcorn, hot rolls, steamy baked potatoes, crisp corn on the cob), after which I put them inside my body. It’s just I have never actually placed any kind of saturated fat outside of my body. Nope…never EVER drenched my body in butter. Or margarine for that matter.
I immediately went to Sego Lily’s website to read the full description of this fascinating treatment and learned they don’t offer a Body Margarine Sprinkle on the menu (probably because then everyone would be thinking, “I can’t believe it’s not butter!”) but it did say that part of the treatment includes a full body massage! Massage too? Okay I am in!!!  The deal is sealed! (Or drenched or spread or whatever!)
Bring on the butta baby!
Now for someone that has only had ONE massage in her entire life, (belly massages from wanna-be drill sergeant nurses two hours after giving birth - five different times – DO NOT COUNT!) the word excitement just doesn’t cut it! I was in a state of extreme intense anticipation!
The timing couldn’t have been better. Between the time I scheduled my appointment and the time it rolled around, I had been literally drenched (even smothered!) to my eyeballs in – no not butter – but STRESS!!! It goes without saying I was more than ready to see if my first visit would fulfill Sego Lily’s claim to renew my mind, body, AND spirit.
If there was anyone to give it the test that day, it was ME! But I admit I was somewhat skeptical considering NO chocolate was involved in the process.  Not even cocoa butter!jodi15
As I entered the spa weighed down with my heavy load of burdens, I was greeted by my wonderful masseuse, Nichole, who reached out and cheerfully took them from me.
I more than willingly handed them over to her, fully intending to retrieve them once again upon my departure.
Upon my arrival inside the spa, the beautiful and peaceful surroundings made me quickly forget all about that bag of burdens that I entered with.  I was warmly welcomed by the Sego Lily staff and shown around by Nichole. What an escape I was feeling already! I felt I had entered into a new realm for a time. Aaaaaah…….
The exhilarating aromas (aromatherapy at it’s finest!) and the tranquil ambiance quickly took their affect.
As the mother of five boys, I was not used to this.  I am usually surrounded by loud noises, rambunctious wrestling, fermenting dirty socks, smelly gym shoes, sweaty uniforms, and many other unknown fragrances, that truth be told, I prefer NOT to know what they are OR where they came from!  Ignorance IS bliss when living with boys.
No nasty aromas at Sego Lily. Not a one. Just the intoxicating scent of lavender and mint and eucalyptus permeating everywhere. It was worth walking inside just to give my olfactory receptors a thrill.
I was led to the locker room, which trust me folks is unlike ANY locker room this mother of all boys has ever seen (not that I frequent male locker rooms or anything!). Inside my personal locker was a luxuriously soft and comfortable robe! Once that baby went on, I felt like I had just been crowned Queen and was ready to be spoiled.  Nichole motioned for me to follow her, which I eagerly did, when suddenly these words flew out of my mouth:
Yes, my lady, I come hither.  Wither thou goest I will go, for I am in much need of a frolicking pamper fest consisting of being drencheth in butter.  I do fear madness will befall me if I don’t receive it heretofore!”
Wow!  That royal feeling seeped inside quick!
Even before I was inside my room, I was completely relaxed. The calming music softly playing in the background along with the serene sound of water flowing and dimmed lights made it impossible not to be. I was ready to be royally buttered pampered!
I was not disappointed. The butter cream was so luxuriating and so intensely wonderful that I swear my body just slurped it up on the spot! Honey Dew Body Butter…mmm… Honey do more! Please! Never stop!”, was consuming my thoughts! The combination of that and the massage…OH THE MASSAGE! I thought I had died and gone to saturated fats heaven!
Nichole’s magic hands and fingers found all the right places my stress was hiding. Against every instinct in my core, I fell into an almost vegetative oil state. I wasn’t asleep… heck I’m not that relaxed when I’m snoozing.  But I wasn’t quite with it either.
After being lavishly drenched in butter I was wrapped up in a plastic cocoon basting blissfully while given the most incredible neck massage known to woman!  I emerged from my cocoon – not a butterfly – but a royal Queen Bee!
Now I can NOT believe I am about to say this, BUT… this experience was even BETTER than chocolate! I know, I know….that sounds like blasphemy especially coming from me – the founder of Chocoholics Un-anonymous. But this truly surpassed any chocolate experience even I’ve ever known. Yes, better than any chocolate morsel that has ever passed through my lips en route to my hips, and yet this was 100% calorie free! Whoever heard of drenching anything with butter without inducing severe guilt laden calories?
Hmm…I wonder if they’ve considered doing a Cocoa Butter Drench too?
This healthy indulgence did more than fully RENEW my mind, body, and spirit!  It soothed my soul, strengthened my body, and clarified my mind, just as promised.  I was a new woman as I departed!  My experience at Sego Lily lived up to it’s claim and definitely quenched my body’s thirst for serenity in this chaotic world!  My bag of burdens remained behind.  An enormous weight was lifted!
As I flitted lightly out the door of that tranquil world inside Sego Lily, I felt completely ready to take on the world again… and with a new crown to boot!  After all that pampering and drenching in butter, I felt like royalty, a real Dairy Queen!
Do whatever you want with my bag of burdens Nichole.  Maybe you should drench it in butter too!
They even sell the yummy butter so you can drench yourself in it at home when your skin gets thirsty! Sorry, they don't sell massages in a can!
Fare thee well my Sego Lily lady! Parting is such sweet sorrow! But 'tis not so when parting with heavy burdens! I thank thee for thou hast taketh them far away!
Not trying to butter you up nope!  BUT if you are in need of a vacay from your stress and burdens then allow Sego Lily to do the buttering up! They are really good at it!!!  As always the proof is in the pudding butter!!!
